Domplatz (Cathedral Square) was first mentioned as "ante gradus" in a 1293 document. It has been known as Domplatz since 1945. It is the largest square in the city and is said to have served as a market and trading place since as far back as the 8th century. Domplatz is still the venue for a variety of markets and other events. To this day, the locals have also been calling it Gradenmarkt or Vor den Graden.
